WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE YOU?‏

There are many piano teachers, schools and music educator out there. It is by chance that you have come to my website. Just a few points for you to consider if you should hire me as your piano instructor.

No registration fees. - Seriously, why should you pay to register?

No deposit needed.

You may cancel lessons whenever you want to. However there won't any refund. In the event that you really cant make it due to work etc and have any outstanding lessons. These lessons would then be converted into make up lesson credits and you can use them for lessons in the future.

I do allow last minute cancellation. Very often we get last minute notifications and I do allow students to cancel lessons at the very last minute. These lessons will be converted into a make up credit and you can then let me know when you would like to have the make up lesson.

I always believe that a teacher should be there all the time for his/her students. Should you encounter any problems during practices, please do feel free to call/text me. If I am teaching, I will get back to you at the earliest time possible.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR ME TO START PLAYING? -

This is a very subjective question that I encounter very often. The progress of a student is usually reflected by the amount of practice a student put in. For example, if student A practices for 30 minutes a day, he/she would be able to progress faster than Student B who has no practices at all. Practising is a habit, just like jogging. Start out slow and eventually you will be able to develop this habit. For student who has no time to practice at all, fret not, I could recommend some ways that you could slot in some practice regime during your free time. Also after every lesson I would write down a list of things that you need to work on, thus making your practice more effective.

I AM TOTALLY NEW TO MUSIC, IS IT OKAY FOR ME TO LEARN?

Nobody is born knowing how to play the piano. I started at the age of 19 and within 4 years I got my grade 8. I started researching on improvisation and today, I am proud to say that I have taught students who even had attained LRSM(2 levels higher than grade 8) improvisation. Currently more than 60% of my students are adults with no background at all. And they are all able to start playing simple pieces within 4 lessons.

I HAVE SOME BACKGROUND ALREADY, DO I NEED TO START FROM SCRATCH?

That's one of the reason why I recommended individual lesson. I would always find out from the students what are their objectives and work from there. For students who has certain background in music, what I will do is to work with it and build on from them. Rest assure that I will not waste your time and money teaching things that you have already know.

CAN I DON'T READ FROM SCORES?

I strongly recommend that my students read from scores. This is to allow you to be very sure of what you are playing and from there, you will always have a guide in practising. Score reading are not "scary". A lot of my students are able to read simple scores after 4 lessons and they feedback to me that they are relieved and glad that they chose to learn how to read the score from the start.
However if you really hate reading scores, no problem. There are some students whom I teach that are not reading the scores. There's always a solution. So no worries!

AM I TOO OLD TO LEARN?

Nobody is too old to learn anything. I didn't start learning the piano at a very young age either. As long as you are willing to learn, definitely you will be able to play. Most of my students are adult, the oldest one she is in her 70s.

SO FAR HOW ARE YOUR STUDENTS FARING?

I have managed to obtained a 100% passing rate. For my improvisation students who are not taking the examination, all of them are able to read and improvise from simple fake sheets. With the more experience ones trying out tougher scores. Some of my students are already composing their own materials.

AT WHAT AGE DO YOU RECOMMEND PIANO LESSONS FOR KIDS?

I recommend piano lessons to be conducted at least at the age of 6 for small children. That is the period where their fingers are more developed and their concentration levels are higher.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF COURSES YOU TEACH?

I teach improvisation piano and keyboard. I have years of training and playing experience as a solo pianist or keyboardist. Should you need a teacher to guide you to become either a pianist or keyboardist in a band, I am more than happy to help.

HOW IS YOUR TEACHING STYLE LIKE?

I focus alot on the fundementals of music. Which is basically, how music works. I teach music theories that you can actually apply to playing rather than, just learning for the sake of passing exams. Also, for song wise, I will give songs that my students like rather than learning 3 songs a year for the sake of the examination. Some other skillsets will be taught as well, such as rhythm training, improvisation, composing, ear training etc. Recordings will also be done on a regular basis for my students to assess their own improvements.

AM I ALLOWED TO CANCEL MY LESSONS AT THE VERY LAST MINUTE?

I do understand that there are times where we might have last minute issues. I do allow last minute cancellation of lessons and students would be given a make up credit. The credit is non-expiry and could be used to arrange another lesson with me. I would not forfeit a lesson due to last minute cancellations.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Simply give me a call/text or email. I could arrange everything over the phone.

DO YOU TEACH IN A GROUP?

Yes I do. However the skill level of the two students have to be similar. For example if you and your friends are total beginner, you may join the class together.
If one of the student has music background and the other doesn't, no worries, both students can be in the same studio but I'll teach individually. I do understand that some students would like to have friends with them when they learn.

WHY ARE YOUR RATES FIXED?

My course fees are set at a fixed rate due to the experience that I had when some of my students are forced to quit due to financial issues. For that I have decided to charge everyone at a rate that is fair and remains constant.

DO YOU RECOMMEND DIGITAL PIANO OR ACOUSTIC PIANO?

They each have their own advantages. For acoustic pianos, the weight of the piano keys is irreplaceable by a digital piano and, they are very great for training the strength and techniques for the fingers. The better the piano is, the heavier the keys would be. Sound wise, apart from the quality of the piano itself, other factor such as the space in the location where the piano is placed plays a part to the quality of the sound. For example, generally, acoustic piano sounds nicer in a room where the ceiling is higher. Digital Pianos, however they are compromised in the touch department. No matter how expensive the digital piano  is, it will not be able to match up the touch and weight comparing to an acoustic piano. The pros of a digital piano is, they usually comes with a few sounds, no tuning is needed and you can virtually place them anywhere in a room and they will sound as good! It is impossible to state all the pros and cons here as there are many types of pianos and keyboards. Please feel free to contact me should you need more information!

DO I NEED TO PAY FOR ANOTHER OTHER FEES OTHER THAN THE COURSE FEES?

No. All materials will be provided F.O.C except for examination materials. They usually cost lesson than $50SGD
